SOAFEE for Software Defined Vehicles
Arm’s Scalable Open Architecture for Embedded Edge (SOAFEE) project brings together automakers, semiconductor and cloud technology leaders to define a new open-standards based architecture for the software-defined vehicle. It delivers a reference implementation which enables cloud-native technologies like container orchestration to be combined with automotive functional safety for the first time.
Partnering with Arm, ADLINK has created the development platform for SOAFEE to develop and test vehicle functions with “mixed criticality”. The development platform leverages the software-defined approach to deliver new in-vehicle experiences and features that meet consumers’ demands and expectations, and unlock new opportunities for automakers, Tier 1s, software providers and cloud providers.
“Cross-development is pointless and stupid when the alternative
is to just develop and deploy on the same platform.” — Linus Torvalds
ADLINK’s development platform for SOAFEE lets people develop and deploy without cross-platform compilation, cross-platform debugging, and complex toolchains. This is great for developers working on software defined vehicle, autonomous driving, robots and industrial applications. ADLINK found Ampere Altra to be the ideal partner silicon for this. SOAFEE’s reference application is Open Robotics ROS 2 with Autoware.Auto, and the default ROS middleware Eclipse Cyclone DDS with iceoryx zero-copy and Zenoh V2X.
