Manufacturing high-quality products at minimum cost is the goal for most companies. Food and beverage manufacturers have innovated and invested a great deal of time and resources into optimizing production and packaging processes. In many food production facilities, human workers perform visual quality inspection, while more automated plants often rely on machine vision. But both methods have drawbacks, especially in light of the current challenges, with production downtime increasing to as much as 15%.
Artificial intelligence is changing food and beverage manufacturing
Superior camera technology combined with AI-driven machine vision analysis are revitalizing production line performance. Benefits include improved product quality, higher equipment effectiveness, and actionable insights. Between November 2020 and August 2021, a bottler in the Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) region experienced roughly 90,000 minutes, or over two months, of downtime at one site alone. The company had experienced such issues numerous times and finally decided to deploy an edge AI vision inspection solution that would be easy to implement and maintain, and operate effectively and unobtrusively in the bottler’s environment for increased production efficiency.
Efficiency, Reliability, Minimized Downtime
ANSCENTER, an ADLINK solution partner in Australia, customized its ANS Intelligent Vision System (ANSVIS) software on the ADLINK NEON smart camera to integrate seamlessly into the bottler’s existing workflow, minimizing both on-site configuration and additional integration by their technical staff. In addition, it aims to lower barriers for software developers and non-programmers by allowing anyone to build AI models and provide a simple, cost-effective, high-performance, real-time, manageable, and scalable AI solution.
We rely on ADLINK hardware for our food and beverage applications, which has proven to be a game-changer. The stability of ADLINK's hardware is unmatched, offering us a robust and reliable solution for our high-speed vision inspection needs. Setting up the hardware is a breeze, even for those without extensive technical expertise. ADLINK's hardware meets all the necessary industrial standards for vision inspection, giving us confidence that our processes comply. Additionally, its compatibility with GigE cameras is a significant advantage, allowing us to leverage the power of high-quality imaging. ADLINK has delivered a seamless experience, ensuring our operations run smoothly and efficiently.

AI Reduces Downtime in Food and Beverage Production
The NEON/ANSVIS integrated solution is able to recognize imperfections in process patterns and production anomalies, and triggers an alert when there is an issue. With AI deep learning algorithms, this analysis can also be performed in real time in the cloud and used for predictive maintenance, further reducing the risk of system failure. This integrated AI solution enables process improvements that reduce costs through predictive maintenance and minimizes breakdowns and unplanned downtime.
Improved Product Quality
ADLINK’s NEON-2000-JNX smart camera uses high-definition raw image data with its MIPI or USB3 image sensor, eliminating encoding/decoding, retaining critical resources for inference, and resulting in higher frames-per-second with lower latency. Accompanied by the ANSVIS analysis software, the NEON-2000-JNX performs AI analysis of images at full camera speed (60 FPS), allowing the system learn how to identify components correctly and spot errors to improve accuracy and perform high accuracy visual inspections to detect quality issues in real time. Meanwhile, machine learning and AI help to identify the root cause of quality issues, improving future production processes.

ANSVIS on NEON smart camera collaborate a total solution
By pairing the ADLINK NEON smart camera with ANSCENTER’s AI analysis platform accelerate deployment by integrating with as much of customer's prior workflow as possible, saving on-site configuration and the need for inexperienced tech staff to attempt the integration on their own.
All-in-one standalone AI vision camera
With integrated NVIDIA® Jetson Xavier NX, image sensor, and optimized software environment, the NEON AI Smart Camera rolls all hardware and software into a single package. The all-in-one design minimizes cabling and space requirements, allowing the NEON AI Smart Camera to be unobtrusively installed in the existing bottler’s environment.
Responsive and efficient AI design
The NEON AI Smart Camera uses high-definition raw image data with its MIPI or USB3 image sensor, eliminating encoding/decoding, retaining critical resources for inference, and resulting in higher frames-per-second with lower latency. With AI deployment, the visual inspection system can accurately recognize imperfection patterns and automatically send an alert to production line staff that helps ensure quality products.
Ease of software integration and compatibility
The NEON AI Smart Camera eradicates the hardware and software difficulties inherent with most other AI vision systems, providing an all-in-one AI vision system with built-in GUI software for easy programming and setup, cutting development time to just two weeks.
