Application: Fire Detection in Tunnels
Temperature detection offers vital security value in many industries, such as subway/metro tunnels, mining, warehouses, and oil & gas facilities. The traditional means to measure temperature is to deploy measurement devices at specific positions, which is not practical when the measurement range is up to several kilometers. Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) is a technology based on fiber optic time-domain reflectmeter technology. DTS can measure temperature profiles along optical fibers with lengths of up to 60 km and obtain thousands of accurate temperature measurements.
In a DTS system, a pulsed laser is coupled to an optical fiber. Light is backscattered as the pulse propagates through the fiber. The wavelengths of the light are affected by temperature change at certain position. By accurately measuring the difference in the signal intensity of the backscattered light, an accurate temperature measurement can be performed. When dealing with such high-speed signals, a high-speed and high-resolution digitizer plays an important role in the application. The sampling rate of the digitizer determines the spatial resolution and the dynamic performance determines the temperature resolution
ADLINK Solution: PCIe-9842: 1-CH 14-Bit 200 MS/s High-Speed PCI Express Digitizer
ADLINK's PCIe-9842 is a 200 MS/s, 14-Bit, 1-CH high speed digitizer. The device features 50 Ω input impedance with ±1 V input range, which is designed to capture high-frequency signals up to 100 MHz. The PCIe-9842 is designed on the PCI Express x4 interface to efficiently transfer data whereby real-time data transfer can thus be realized through this high-speed interface.
