Open System Architecture for Condition Based Maintenance
For the aircraft industry to stay competitive in a global market, increased productivity is key. The success of this industry requires continuous development and improvement in the way products are produced and maintained. In order to ensure equipment availability, quality and safety, maintenance has become an important aspect of production support.
Improper maintenance and unavailable equipment often limits the effectiveness of manufacturing. There is a need for additional research within the area of implementing condition-based maintenance (CBM). The purpose of this research project is to investigate how a condition-based maintenance approach can be implemented in an industrial setting, and to develop a method that can assist companies in their implementation efforts using OSA-CBM (Open System Architecture for Condition-Based Maintenance) data model and various middleware technologies including our Data Distribution Service (DDS) implementation Vortex OpenSplice and ICE Zeroc.
