Challenges:
Each air traffic control simulator required five Pentium III commercial PC's. Dell was constantly changing the system configurations due to the ever-changing commercial market demands for increased graphics capabilities and processor speed. This required the customer to spend a lot of engineering resources re-qualifying the latest Dell systems. There was no consistency in the products that the customer was providing.
A second issue was a lack of Solaris support in either the commercial or IPC market.
ADLINK Solution:
By switching to ADLINK products, we were able to provide the customer with a comparable price-to-performance ratio, as well as providing them with a 3-5 year product life cycle.
Configuration:
RK-615B rack mount industrial chassis with NuPRO-760 1.2GHz SBC with 20GB HDD, CDROM, FDD and loaded with Windows98.
By moving everything to rack mount chassis allowed the customer to get the PC's off the floor and into a more centralized location, enabling them to simplify the system cabling and provide a better overall package for their expensive systems.
