Application: Electronic Highway Tollbooth
Tollbooth lanes are often utilized to allow motorists in single-occupant vehicles to access high-occupancy vehicle lanes. Tolls are collected either by manned tollbooths, automatic number plate recognition, or electronic toll collection systems.
The main function of a tollbooth lane is to identify, record, and control passage of vehicles, to carry out toll payments and transmit acquired information to monitoring and local toll plaza facilities. Toll payment information is monitored and aggregated at each toll plaza and reported to central administration for further custom processing.
Toll systems require an industrial platform integrated with serial communication cards to connect and control the systems, remit related data to the control center, and control barriers, read vehicle license plates, and control trigger settings via capture cards.
ADLINK Solution: MXC-6000 Series Powerful Intel® Core™ i7 Processor-based Fanless Expandable Embedded Computer
The MXC-6000 fanless expandable embedded system is perfectly suited for electronic toll gate and surveillance applications with high performance Intel® Core™ i7 Processor with superior graphic performance, two GbE ports, four serial ports and two PCI/PCIe expansion slots. All electronics are securely housed in a compact, rugged chassis with thermal cooling fins, for easy and dependable deployment, even in severe conditions.
Each surveillance camera is connected to a 2/4-port PCI/PCIe video capture card or PoE frame grabber. Captured images transferred to system storage can be scaled down with application software. Entry systems are connected to the control center via Ethernet, and onboard serial ports or add-on serial communication cards enable reliable, high-speed serial communication.
