What is OPC?

OPC (OLE for Process Control) is an industry standard created with the collaboration of a number leading worldwide automation, hardware software suppliers working in cooperation with Microsoft. The organization that manages this standard is the OPC Foundation. Based on Microsoft's OLE (now ActiveX), COM (component object model) and DCOM (distributed component object model) technologies, OPC consists of a standard set of interfaces, properties, and methods for use in process-control and manufacturing-automation applications. The ActiveX/COM technologies define how individual software components can interact and share data. OPC provides a common interface for communicating with diverse process-control devices, regardless of the controlling software or devices in the process.

ADLINK OPC Server support

In order to provide more software interfaces for ADLINK customers and follow the OPC standard, ADLINK develop the OPC server for its hardware products. With the ADLINK OPC server products, ADLINK H/W, such as NuDAQ, NuDAM and HSL, can communicate with a wide range of HMI/SCADA software packages residing on the host. ADLINK OPC Server confirms to OPC standards, and provides immediate compatibility between ADLINK H/W products and a very wide range of application, software system. Any software system with OPC client capabilities can access ADLINK OPC Server.

There are three OPC Servers for customer:

• PCIS-OPC: The OPC Server for ADLINK PCI/ cPCI DAQ cards.
• NDS-OPC: The OPC Server for ADLINK NuDAM modules.
• HSL-OPC: The OPC Server for ADLINK HSL distributed I/O system

For each ADLINK OPC server product, it also provide the configuration utility. User can use the utility to configure the H/W device, I/O channels and operations.
