| [RoHS Q&A] |
 |
 |
| Q: |
Does ADLINK have capability to produce RoHS compliant products? |
| A: |
ADLINK is ready for providing lead-free products. An identified lead-free production line has been ready since February 2005. The lead-free process, including solder paste, solder bar and process control parameters, has been developed and standardized in our manufacturing system. |
|
| Q: |
For products that component vendors don't or won't provide RoHS compliant components, what ADLINK will do? |
| A: |
- For a lead process using lead-free component there is no issue as solderability is impacted by solder paste and solder bar. According our engineering reports, there is no difference with lead components.
- For a lead-free process, BGA chipsets are still under evaluation due to unclear specifications from the major supplier's reference documents. ADLINK continues to watch for updated information and availability to study and verify.

|
| Q: |
How can I be assured that RoHS products from ADLINK are RoHS compliant? |
| A: |
ADLINK's Green Partner Procedure and Green Material Certification System are clearly defined. These two procedures are continually reviewed to meet RoHS requirements, which define the guidelines for ADLINK's green products and materials. All relative operations are procedurized like the ISO 9000 system. Additionally, design guidelines and manufacturing process controls will strictly follow these rules. |
|
|
|
| Q: |
Please specify ADLINK's Green Product Management System. |
| A: |
There are two major components under our Green Product Management System: Green Material Management and Green Products Management. Green materials will be certified through the ADLINK component engineering department, which include supplier certification and material composition analysis. The certification system is maintained by individual part numbers.
Green Products will be composed of 100% green materials and manufactured by lead-free processes, which guarantees that our products meet Green Product requirements. Green Material and Products are identified with specific part numbers and stored in a separate warehouse to prevent mixing.

|
| Q: |
What is ADLINK's verification standard for RoHS compliance? |
| A: |
The RoHS directive (2002/95/EC) defined by the EU is the guideline ADLINK follows. We will keep tracking the RoHS Directive and updating our processes accordingly. The current rules define a maximum concentration of up to 0.1% (by weight) of homogeneous materials for lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, PBB and PBDE, and up to 0.01% (by weight) of homogeneous materials for cadmium.
|
|
| Q: |
How can ADLINK assure customers of the reliability of these "RoHS" products? |
| A: |
The solder joint strength and product reliability of ADLINK products will be analyzed and certified by independent laboratories. Only once certification is complete will ADLINK announce the product as RoHS compliant.
Qualification testing includes:
- Solderability (pull/shear test, cross-section test)
- Reliability (thermal shock, vibration, drop, moisture sensitivity level, and aging test)
|
|
| Q: |
Will there be a cost impact issue associated with the change to RoHS products? |
| A: |
The potential cost increase of RoHS products may be from 10% to 30%, depending on material and production costs. |
|
| Q: |
What solder composition did ADLINK adopt for RoHS production? |
| A: |
ADLINK utilizes the same solder composition used in other world-class companies. The alloy used in our RoHS production is SAC305 (Sn / 3.0% Ag / 0.5% Cu). |
|
| Q: |
How can ADLINK's RoHS compliant products be identified? |
| A: |
ADLINK will put an ADLINK GREEN sticker on the product packaging to identify which products are compliant with RoHS requirements. |
